Horse related movie question?

Do you as a horseman/woman tend to watch movies because it has horses in it, even if it is a bad movie.

The other day I was watching the movie "Flicka". The premise of the the movie was not bad, but in my opinion the acting was horrible. Even though I felt it was bad movie I watched it, just to look at the horses.

Does anyone else here watch movies just to look at horses or am I just a little obsessed with horses

Horse related movie question?
Yes, I know what you mean. The movie "The Horse Whisperer" is supposed to be about the horse whisperer. Instead, you get into a rather stupid love affair with a child's well-being at stake, and the movie totally focuses on the people and problems they have, rather than on the horse and trainer. You see about two seconds of actual horse-training, and it isn't enough to really satisfy my curiosity at the title of the movie. I gladly watched (and bought) the movie just for the horses and idea behind it, but I thought it was sadly lacking in what I really wanted to see. I would have loved for Robert Redford to really act out Buck Brannaman's horsemanship methods, but I guess that's asking a little too much of Hollywood.

Have you seen the horse movie "Flash", about a boy who rides a horse across several states to meet his dad (coming home from war, or something)...it's modern day, set in the south, and the boy and horse really have some neat adventures. I liked it because it seemed real-life (plain ol' boy, plain ol' sorrel horse) and yet had an out-of-the-ordinary plot. Fun movie!
Reply:I watch lots of horse movies that are horrible just to look at the horses also. Don't worry, you are not the only one who is horse crazy. I go online and google image quarter horses sometimes just to look at them.
Reply:Oh sure. I love horses so I've probably seen lots of movies with that theme, although I've yet to see the movie Flicka for some reason. I didn't know the acting was bad but I'll probably rent it anyway one day. The movie Dreamer was not really great, an implausible storyline for one thing - a filly running in the Breeders' Cup Classic (would've made mroe sense if she ran in the Distaff) after having been severely injured - I didn't buy it. But I overlooked it and did enjoy it anyway.
Reply:sometimes its great to watch movies with horses, and if they are really bad i enjoy finding all the mess ups with the horses ( in that spirit movie, the horses drink by licking with their tounnges)
Reply:yeah i do the same thing. Its kinda fun to see what's going to happen in the movie. I felt the same way about flicka. I was disappointed with it. It certainly could have been better. My favortie horse movie is seabiscuit.
Reply:Yes!

I love horses, and especially if you don't have a horse, you will tend to watch some of the most HORRIBLE movies, just because they have horses in it.

Even the ones that make you cry or just have bad actors, I watch them just to see the horses.

In my opinion the best horse movie is all the Black Stallion series.

=]
Reply:i quite honestly avoid watching certian movies because of the way they portray horseback riding is an insult once i realize i cannot watch it i turn it off
Reply:*shyly raises hand* Yes, I am guilty of movie watching for horses. Always have the hope that the moviemakers hire actual horse people for the directing, usually don't. So if it's too bad of a movie (Flicka), it's kind of fun to just pick apart the bad horsemanship. :)
Reply:sometimes i watch movies just for the horses because horses is almost what my life rvolves around.
Reply:No, I make a point to avoid them because they are usually so whimsical that they annoy me and watching people whisper to the rank stallion that then turns around and saves their life grinds my gears.

However, I do know the guy that played War Admiral's groom in Seabiscuit, great guy - ex jockey.
Reply:I have not seen the new Flicka, I still love the original Flicka, My Friend Flicka, and the sequel, Thunderhead, Son of Flicka with Roddy McDowell.

I do like horse movies, and probably because I am horse person. But I don't jump up to see horse-related movies just because they have a horse in it. It took me forever to catch Racing Stripes on HBO, and I have yet to see Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.

But I do enjoy well done horse movies with a solid plot, and loveable characters. Seabiscuit, Horse Whisperer, and the 1995 remake of Black Beauty are my favorite movies. Loved Black Stallion, disliked Return of the Black Stallion. And the television movie tribute Ruffian could have been SO much better.

I like looking at the horses in movies I watch, and commenting on the riding they are receiving --- like the Arwyn the Elf in Lord of the Rings really needed to ease up on the reins of her gray horse while she was trying to escape the Ring Wraiths - horse could have run faster if it's head wasn't poker straight in the air!!

But over all, plot more than horses makes the movie for me.
Reply:I don't watch movies which are supposed to be about horses because they do stupid things in them that horses never would do. But yes, I watch bad movies for the horses. Have you seen The Legend Of Zorro? the horse is the best actor in it.
Reply:I also rent movies that have a horse as the main theme. A few are good, but there are a lot that are just terrible.

Some of my favorites are: Seabiscuit, Dreamer, Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken, Hidalgo.

Some of the worst are Flicka and The Derby Stallion. I've managed to forget the names of the other terrible ones.
Reply:Yes, and I watch to see the scenery if it is a mountain setting. Just looking at the background is fun to me, whether the movie stinks or not.
Reply:I hate all the extra, fake neighs that are in most movies involving horses. If I didn't know any better I'd think horses were neighing all the time for no reason in particular. Even though that drives me nuts, I do like to look at the horses.
Reply:Haha, yeah, all the time. I watched Flicka too, and didn't really care for it, althought the horses were beautiful!

Sometimes I even watch the old western channnel just to see the horses!

I agree with equestrian, I like picking out bad horsemanship! :)
Reply:I do the exact same thing!
Reply:yep but i normally look for the mess ups. you know when the horse is a mare but they use a gelding or a second horse has a sock %26amp; the first didnt
Reply:Yeah, I'll admit it, I have been known to watch a movie for the sole reason that there's a horse in it.

I may even be a little biased towards some movies that aren't really that good but I like them anyway since there's a horse. I agree, Flicka could've been a lot better but I still liked it.

Although, I've still seen some that were downright horrible and I still disliked them despite the horses. Like Racing Stripes.... My gosh, that movie was awful.

My favorites will always be Black Beauty and Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. They're just great movies, they can make me cry no matter how many times I watch them.
Reply:i mostly watch the movie for the horses. but like in lord of the rings it wasn't just for the horses. i did though have to re watch the 2nd and thrid movies because of the horse shadowfaux. And i also ended up buying the extended versions of the movies because it really went into details on traing the hrose to ride bareback without a saddle and bridle at a gallop.( can now do that with my horse) so it depends on the movie really.

tooth and nail
