Name of movie about cop trying to get killed?

So years ago I saw a movie, and I'm curious what the name is..





All I remember is it's about a cop for some reason trying to get killed "in the line of duty"





I'm pretty sure it was a comedy.. I remember him chasing all kinds of crazy killer type people practically begging them to kill him

and why was he trying to get himself killed??





I think it's a pretty old movie.. 80's or early 90's.. maybe even late 70's...

He tried to get killed in the line of duty so his wife would collect a big insurance policy. He did all kinds of crazy heroic stuff hoping he would get killed but he couldnt get killed

Reply:The name of the movie is Short Time. It came out in 1990. He is a cop that found out he was dying, so he wanted to die in the line of duty to make sure his wife and son were taken care of. Turned out his medical records were some how swapped and he was looking at someone elses. Pretty funny movie.
