I am trying to burn a movie created with Windows Movie Maker to DVD (I use Windows XP). The DVD is "DVD +R", and my Dell XPS has a drive with the same symbol on it ("RW DVD + Rewritable"). Yet when I try to burn the movie, I keep getting a message that the disc is the wrong format. I can't find anywhere on the Windows help topics regarding proper DVD format, but when I click "finish movie", there is definitely a "burn to DVD" option.
Please don't answer if the only suggestion is to buy another program (I've read those answers). I just want to know what DVD type I'm supposed to be using, or does Windows Movie Maker not allow DVD burning even though that option is on the menu.
Windows Movie Maker to DVD?
You cannot burn a wmv to dvd, as a movie format, only as data, but you can choose to save your movie in avi format in wmm which will burn to dvd, and play on a stand alone dvd player, with divx function.
Reply:Windows Movie Maker will not allow you to burn a movie to a DVD so that you can watch it in a stand-alone DVD Player. It will allow you burn the movie file (.wmv file, probably) to a data dvd. In other words, it will just store the file it created on a DVD. This won't play in a DVD player.
I'm not sure why you can't burn the file to the DVD, however. If you have an older DVD drive, it is possible that it only accepts DVD -R discs, but most newer driver will accept +R or -R.
Hope this helps
