When a movie comes out on DVD, are there small bits that were cut out of the original cinema movie version?

Sorry if that question seems unclear but when i get dvds that were once in the cinema, they seem shorter. I know it could be the reason that i know what's going to happen so it seems like the movie is shorter. Do they cut parts out of the original cinema movie version and not put those bits onto DVDs to make the movie shorter.

I remember watching a movie in the cinemas (can't remember which one), when it came out on DVD it seemed like they cut small parts out of the original cinema movie version?

No, I don't think so. Sometimes the DVD version is longer than the theatrical one when an unrated or director's cut is released but I've never heard of it being the other way around.
Reply:They might cut out parts of the movie when they show it on television but not for DVD. The only time you get another version of the movie is when they release the extended cut or director's cut of the movie. Or if they have an "unrated" version, one recent movie that comes to mind is Superbad, come out at the same time with a minute or so of content that was cut out to keep the movie at the "R" rating for theatrical release.
Reply:It is not uncommon for the directors of a movie to cut out small parts of a movie, either because of continuity, or to stick to a time limit.

So, Yes, depending on the movie, it could have some parts cut out when it is released or, some parts added even, like a "Directors Cut"
