Is the movie "Jughead" close to what the war is like in Iraq now>?

I was watching the movie Jughead last night. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's a movie about a young Marine going into boot training and going to war in Operation Desert Storm in Iraq. In the movie it shows them actually using a branding iron on another Marine while over there and giving him a tatoo (his fellow men), and also talked alot about cheating spouses and girlfriend's. There was even a video sent to them of a spouse having relations with another man and showing it to her husband. I know these things must go on but I found the violence of this movie to be a bit much and turned it off. In fact, I think I am trashing the movie. I've watched other war movies and wondered if this is what our young men and women are having to experience in time of war and why they aren't given more emotional support like they are and counseling. Is this why alot of them come home and have a hard time re-adjusting to civilian life and some have even become homeless? Sad movie.

Is the movie "Jughead" close to what the war is like in Iraq now%26gt;?
The movie was Jarhead.

That's about the first gulf war, which lasted a week. The present conflict is TOTALLY different because the present conflict involves insurgents that don't adhere to the rules of war and don’t exactly stand out, so they can tag you any where at any time. THAT alone will drive you crazy. The first gulf war was a walk in the park compared to what our servicemen and servicewomen are going through now. (I served during first gulf war, so I can say this for a fact.)

Jarhead was based on a true story, but it was also dramatized to sell tickets in theaters ... fortunately, it failed miserably on the latter endeavor since most peops assessed it pretty quickly as trash and subsequently it didn't do too good at the theaters.

Despite that, there is a degree of brainwashing and brutality that goes on in the military as demonstrated by the branding scene, but as I remember, that was an honor bestowed by brothers. (We got "blood stripes" on our legs when we made NCO in the USMC bestowed upon us by fellow NCOs. Not fun and won't be explained here. But it was an honor for me and I got a day off the next day to recover.) And yes, there is a bit of infidelity going on by both sides of the coin, probably more so in the military than in civilian life due to the stress and long-term separation of spouses. The rest of the movie was pretty much unrealistic and hyped up Hollywood crap. Watch it as entertainment, not as truth.

Watch "Platoon" if you want to get a more realistic viewpoint of how screwed up an insurgency war is.
Reply:Do you mean "Jarhead"? LMAO If that's what you're talking about, a lot of Marines were offended by the movie's portrayal of what the Marine Corps and fighting in combat is really like. So I wouldn't use that as a fair representation of the Marine Corps, or war for that matter. I don't think any movie could really capture what it's like to be in combat.
Reply:NOTHING is like the reality of war.

When you're watching a movie, YOU are safe. There isn't the constant fear of a bullet that will shatter your life or kill you.

Watching someone get killed isn't like doing it yourself.
Reply:First off the movie is called Jarhead. Second it's an accurate depiction of the war during Desert Storm. The depicted violence is far less than would be seen in other war movies, and is on par with the actual level of violence found in war. The current campaign in Iraq is way different than Jarhead, its more urban fighting, or M.O.U.T (Military Operations on Urban Terrian) and is more characterized by I.E.Ds than mortar/artillery strikes. All soldiers no matter what the conflict face the perils put forth in the movie. And to touch on the branding iron scene, this is done as a hazing ritual to initiate the marine into the unit, and is a sign of respect.
Reply:Jessica Simpson, is that you? Is this chicken or fish?
Reply:pluggedinonline.com has a great review of this movie...ironically, by a former Marine who served for 7 years. He was disappointed with the representation of life in the Corps, and was not impressed with the movie overall.

check it out.

Reply:First of all, the name of the movie is "JARhead." Big difference!

And my fiance was in the Marine Corps. He said that was pretty much typical Marine Corps life. And, yeah, its not all warm and fuzzy. And it doesn't help that we treat our veterans like **** when they come home.
